Movement

Movement
Thought movement often occurs slowly overtime. Rarely does an idea get accepted that is completely foreign except through a series of steps in that direction. I’ve realized that in my life coming from point A does not turn into point D except after consistent persistent slow shoves in that direction.
Case in point is the working of the Holy Spirit in my life. More “free will” growing up, my theology had “matured” to a point where I thought the ministry of the Holy Spirit was — although not ‘removed’ or separated from daily existence — it was rare or unusual to say the least. However recently due to a new book and a more open church I’ve been attending, I’ve gained more of an appreciation for the true power that is resident in the Holy Spirit’s daily ministry in the lives of believers. Too much we discount our scholarship leanings for a substitution or supreme enlightenment that surpasses the experience of the Holy Spirit. Ps 46:10 says “stop striving and realize that I am God”. Quiet, solitude and contemplation, although concepts I’ve never fully explored because of the possible new age leanings, are things I plan on exploring and experiencing in my own life. Again, this could not have happened from point A to D, but rather a slow step of progression and dozens of factors and events that have caused me to realize that there is an untapped resource that is available to me, the Holy Spirit of God who lives inside me and is offered to me as a comforter and advocate (John 14:6).

Donuts, expanded

I’ve been thinking a lot about sustainability and whether we can truly declare ourselves devoted to advancing the cause. After all, sustainability means in one sense the ability to have all your needs met through local gardens or farms or ranches. And after all, the number of people in this country that are truly capable of such a feat is very small.
So does that mean that sustainability is only achievable in certain levels of success?
One such sustainable theory that I’ve been mulling over is the ‘support the local businessman’ over the large retail chain. One of my favorite vices is donuts. Thus the cause for the previous post. Thanks, Heidi, for spurring me on to complete my thought. So I’ve been looking for a donut place in my local area that meets the criteria of small and local and not chain. However I’ve reached a quandary. There is a local chain (rather large, but only in this town) that is essentially a donut-monopoly. Do I patronize their establishment because it’s local, or spurn it because it’s a monopoly?
I’ll let the readers of this blog, if any, decide.

Soul Searching

If the iris of an eye is the window to the center to the soul what does that make the white part? The donut?
